New vision for “tired” town centre

When in doubt – get some fresh ideas from outside.

Following consultation sessions and drop-in sessions held in August, Urban Design experts Sala4D and King+Campbell returned to Molong to display their findings and suggestions for a revitalised town centre.

In August, the Molong and Canowindra communities were invited to explore and shape ideas regarding ways to create more attractive and stylish town centres. The key messages to come out of these consultations for Molong were that the community impression of the town centre is tired and in need of modernisation.

The Molong community would like to see their town centre as sophisticated and stylish. The papers outlining the suggested changes to achieve these visions are on public exhibition on Cabonne Councils website and at their offices.

In one go the proposal for Bank Street:

• Creates a median which separates traffic and allows pedestrians to cross and seek safe relief in the centre

• Rids the street of the dreaded double white lines.

• Replaces the current Jacaranda trees at the edges with potted suitable varieties.

• Provides modern and stylish seating and street furniture.

• Proposes a “safe crossing point” halfway up the street.

• Seeks to connect Bank Street to the pool via the laneway to a carpark and the old gasworks site.

Those who attended the Bank Street drop-in sessions and the presentation last week at the RSL Club were treated to a feast of good ideas by the consultants.
