Molong receives a share of $10 million for truck wash

Truck operators will save on annual travel costs and wait time with the installation of a new truck wash at Molong.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey and Member for Calare Andrew Gee recently announced over $500,000 for a new truck wash as part of the Fixing Country Truck Washes program. The joint NSW and Australian Government investment will make it quicker and easier for trucks going to and from Orange to stay clean and road worthy.

“It’s an 82 kilometre single leg journey to the next available truck wash facility in Carcoar,” Mrs Pavey said. “With this new facility, trucks will not have to divert from direct routes or travel empty to Carcoar to access a truck wash and effluent disposal point. “This upgrade will improve biosecurity throughout the region, as well as reduce the spread of weeds.”

Mr Gee said while the site is yet to be determined the new facility will cater for large vehicles up to B-Doubles. “These new Truck Washes are a big win for regional NSW, they will help create a strong, reliable freight transport network, boosting regional economy” he said.

The Molong truck wash is one of 26 projects to share in the $10 million joint NSW and Australian initiative, focusing on key routes where current washing facilities do not meet the demand or needs of the livestock transport task. “The program focuses on hotspots like Molong where truck washing facilities and effluent disposal do not currently meet the needs of truck operators, especially livestock carriers,” he said.

“The NSW and Australian Governments are always looking for ways to make life easier for rural, regional and remote businesses and this is another example of their good work.”
