Think you can do it better ? Council election nominations open

Nominations are now open to take a seat on Cabonne Council and the opportunity to participate in the advancement of Cabonne Country and to represent ALL of the towns, villages and surrounding districts of Cabonne Country i.e. Molong, Cumnock, Yeoval, Manildra, Cudal, Eugowra, Canowindra, Cargo, Nashdale, Mullion Creek Borenore, Canowindra and everywhere else.

Cabonne Council area covers a massive 6,026 km² with a total population of 13,386 and is responsible for delivering the 3R’s (Roads, Rates, Rubbish) and anything else the NSW State or Federal Governments require of them e.g. Economic Development, Tourism/Events, Business Support etc.

One can see the skills and knowledge required of Councillors in these times where the huge area that Cabonne Council is required to cover – and the relatively small population/ratepayer $ contribution p.a. would have to be a nightmare financial balancing act that would make the knees of the CEO of the CBA Bank and his Board shake uncontrollably, their teeth rattle and their eyes roll. It’s not an easy role to take a seat and requires significant financial skills, management and leadership skills. And, the liability factor is significant. These days, the last left standing i.e. the Councillor team take more responsibility than ever before … and are in fact the final group in the finger pointing/blame game that governance, today, directs and … exercises.

Most people treat their local Council with hostility – until you try to take it away from them. Criticism is significant!

But give it a go. The NSW Government is encouraging women, younger people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents and members of multicultural communities to run for election for their local council, as candidate nominations open for the upcoming local government polls. Candidate nominations for December 4th Local Government Elections opened on Monday and close on Wednesday, November 3.
One thing about Cabonne – its meetings are held during the day – at least twice a month. This is a massive disincentive to anyone who, say, – has a job, – kids at home, runs a business or farm (i.e. not sitting around with nothing to do.)
