Grand opening for historic lockup

DESPITE a chilly and overcast Sunday, the Molong Historical Society’s grand opening of the historic lockup was a lively celebration of local history and community spirit.

Member of the Molong Historical Society, Cameron Wild, thanked the community for its support.

“This is the result of a community willing to give, so thank you very much,” he said.

The official opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Member for Orange, Phil Donato, who said the lockup would make a great addition to the community.

“This will be a real drawcard to the museum,” he said.

Visitors were then treated to a colourful reenactment, a poetry recital and a sausage sizzle.

The weather may have been cold and grey, but the atmosphere was anything but, with the community coming together for an afternoon of history, storytelling, laughter and good company.
