SPEED limits on three roads at Nashdale will be reduced to 60km/h from early next month following a review by Transport for NSW.
The changes will apply to Nashdale Lane, Nancarrow Lane and Mount Lofty Road, with new speed limit signs to be installed ahead of the changes.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the review was conducted in response to safety concerns raised by road users and the introduction of an updated speed zoning standard in the state.
Following the review, Transport for NSW staff concluded a 60km/h speed limit would better align with the road environment and improve safety for all road users.
The changes will affect 1.3 kilometres of Nashdale Lane, 3.4 kilometres of Nancarrow Lane and 830 metres of Mount Lofty Road.
Nashdale Consultative Committee member Erica Eccleston said residents had raised concerns about safety on the roads, particularly given the amount of traffic in the area.
“There’s a lot of accidents on that corner,” she said. “You’ve got school traffic, traffic going up and down to the vineyards.”
Ms Eccleston said residents had previously raised the issue of the speed limit with Cabonne Council.
“A couple of years ago we suggested to council, maybe it’s time to revise the speed limit,” she said.
After being directed to the relevant Government website to request a speed limit review, Ms Eccleston said residents began making their submissions.
“And so, the residents just started doing it,” she said.
Ms Eccleston welcomed the decision to reduce the speed limit.
“It’s great, it will be a lot safer,” she said. “I think it’s good to know, that sometimes the system does work.”
The new 60km/h speed limit will come into effect on Monday 3 August and Transport for NSW created a map showing the locations of the impacted roads.
