RESIDENTS in Molong, Cumnock and Yeoval should soon have fluoride added to their drinking water supply, with Cabonne Council progressing plans to introduce the trace mineral at the Molong Water Treatment Plant.
The project, which aims to support improved dental access health across the community, is currently awaiting final approval from NSW Health and the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Subject to approvals being finalised, Council is aiming for fluoridation to become operational from Wednesday 29 July 29.
Cabonne Council spokesperson said fluoride is already naturally present in water sources, but levels are adjusted in many communities to assist in reducing tooth decay.
The fluoridation system will supply water from the Molong Water Treatment Plant to the townships of Molong, Cumnock and Yeoval.
Council said strict procedures will be followed, including staff training, monitoring, reporting and auditing requirements.
NSW Health supports water fluoridation as a safe and effective public health measure, stating that it helps prevent tooth decay in children and adults.
