IT’S official, Cabonne Shire will increase in size with land in the north-west of the municipality to join the rest of the council area from 1 July.
The move, which has been years in the making, will see North Yeoval transferred from Dubbo Regional Council to Cabonne Council next month.
The final stage in the plan was OKed by New South Wales Governor Margaret Beazley on Wednesday 17 June, when she cleared the change.
Cabonne Shire Mayor Cr Kevin Beatty welcomed the finalisation of the move and the uniting of North Yeoval with Yeoval.
“This boundary adjustment reflects what the community has been advocating for over many years, bringing Yeoval together under one council to provide clearer, more consistent services,” he said.
“We’re pleased to be working collaboratively with Dubbo Regional Council to deliver this outcome and support the future of the Yeoval community.”
As part of the change, community consultation was undertaken in 2024 and 2025 and the resulting amalgamation will see residents and landowners pay their rates to Cabonne Shire next financial year, with the municipality also taking on service provision.
“This change finally unifies the North Yeoval community with Yeoval under the banner of one single council,” said Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council, Cr Josh Black.
“It’s a practical, common-sense change and one that removes, confusion and gives residents clear, straightforward access to the services they need.
“This is the kind of decision that puts community first, and it sets North Yeoval up for a strong future.”
While the changeover is occurring, Dubbo Regional Council staff will write to residents in North Yeoval impacted by the move.
Both municipalities have also signed a memorandum of understanding covering funding for community assets and infrastructure that includes a shared pathway along Renshaw McGirr Way and new street signs.
