A MOLONG couple’s passion for helping create unforgettable events has been formally recognised, with Sandy Creek Event Hire named a finalist in the Wedding Industry Awards 2026.
Owners Sam and Georgie Weeks were surprised to discover their small business had been selected as one of just six finalists in the Event Hire category for the Central West region.
The recognition came as a welcome reminder of how far the business has grown since it began as a small idea following the couple’s own wedding in October 2022.
“We just had some things left over from our wedding which we thought, ‘let’s see if we can hire this out’,” Ms Weeks said.
“We got a good response from the very small amount of stuff we had, so we thought, ‘let’s keep adding to it’.”
What started with a few wine barrels and stools has grown into a business offering furniture and event hire for weddings, birthday parties, functions and celebrations across the region.
The couple said they initially didn’t realise how significant being named a finalist was.
“We didn’t really take it seriously for about a month because we just thought, ‘oh, this is something like everyone gets nominated for’,” Mr Weeks said.
Ms Weeks added, “It wasn’t until someone we collaborate with rang and said, ‘Do you know how big a deal this is? There’s only six of us in our category out of the whole Central West, and you’re one of them.”
The couple, who both work full-time alongside running Sandy Creek Event Hire, said the award recognition was particularly meaningful as a small local business.
“To ourselves, we are just the little guy,” Ms Weeks said.
“But it’s nice to be recognised alongside so many other incredible businesses.”
The business has continued to grow through word of mouth, with past clients returning for new celebrations and recommending Sandy Creek Event Hire to friends and family.
The couple said one of the most rewarding parts of the business has been seeing relationships continue beyond a single event.
“I had a past bride email me for her sister’s wedding next year,” Ms Weeks said.
“People do engagement parties and then they come back for the wedding later, and it just keeps adding.”
While they hope to continue expanding in the future, the couple said they are focused on balancing growth with their family and work commitments.
For Sam and Georgie, the finalist recognition is a milestone worth celebrating and a reminder that a small idea born from their own wedding has become something that brings joy to many others.
