I DON’T know about your family, but in mine we love eating bread.
It’s a Spanish thing I know! It seems we can’t literally eat a meal without it. That’s why we started making homemade sourdough at home.
Yep! We love a good piece of sourdough, don’t you?
Now.. for those who don’t know how to make sourdough, it requires a lot of work!
It starts by having a starter that we call ‘mother’, then having the right temperature in your kitchen and finally, having time. A lot of time!!
When we nail it and achieve a nice looking bread, we absolutely love it!! Unfortunately, between our jobs, school, after-school activities, etc.. it became really difficult to be consistent with the whole process.
So thanks to our obsession with freshly made bread, we came across with this blow-minding way of making fresh bread in less than 10 minutes, so we can pump a small batch while we prepare whatever dinner. And we can end up enjoying a family dinner with a super delicious piece of homemade flatbread.
What is it? And most importantly.., how hard is it to make it?
Well, trust me when I tell you it is the easiest and most achievable flatbread recipe you can make at home. Don’t be scared of giving it a try! Your family will love it.
You just need two ingredients: an equal weight of shelf-rising flour and Greek yoghurt. Add a pinch of salt for flavouring to it in a bowl and mix everything with a wooden spoon until you’ve formed a smooth-ish dough.
FYI the one in the pic is a batch of 200gr of flour per 200gr of yoghurt.
Later on, divide the dough into small balls, then press them with your fingers into flat rounds, and cook them in a hot dry pan on both sides until cooked through and golden.
Some people use a little bit of olive oil for that; others add more flour and pin roll it until very thin. Whatever you do, it’s a matter of getting comfortable with the recipe.
Tips and tricks:
1. In my experience, these flatbreads are best cooked over a consistent medium to high heat.
2. I have made these flatbreads in a non-stick pan, but you will always have better results when using cast iron.
3. I like to cook these in a dry pan. Later on, you can brush or drizzle them with olive oil after they’re cooked, and add some dukkah, Zaatar, etc..
4. It takes a few goes until you feel comfortable with the texture of the dough. The more you make the easiest it gets.
5. Use these flatbreads to have a shared meal like a pulled piece of meat, a fresh salad, some hummus, etc.. use your hands, rip them apart, etc!
6. Kids tip? You can use them as well as a base to make mini pizzas for your kids! They will absolutely love it.
