CABONNE residents are being encouraged to nominate the people making a difference in their communities, with nominations for the 2027 Australian of the Year Awards closing on Friday 31 July.
The National Australia Day Council is calling on Australians to put forward people whose achievements and dedication deserve national recognition, whether through volunteering, community service, education, health, the arts, science, business or advocacy.
National Australia Day Council interim chief executive officer Todd Ashurst said anyone could submit a nomination.
“We’re counting down the final days to get nominations in for the people you find inspiring and think should be considered as the next Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year or Australia’s Local Hero,” Mr Ashurst said.
“Now is the time to tell us about the people you see contributing within the community and the people whose achievements you’ve heard about and admire.
“Nominating is a quick and simple process. You don’t need to know the person, you don’t need to submit a lot of paperwork, you just need to tell us who they are and why you think they are great Australians.”
The Australian of the Year Awards aim to recognise people who have made meaningful contributions to Australia or their local communities through leadership, innovation, creativity and service. Nominees may have overcome challenges, mentored others, volunteered their time or helped create positive change.
Mr Ashurst said one nomination was all it took for someone to be considered for an award.
Awards are presented in four categories: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero.
Nominations close at midnight on Friday 31 July and to nominate someone head to australianoftheyear.org.au.
