CABONNE Council’s plan to add fluoride to the drinking water supply of three towns has been pushed back by a month.
Last Wednesday 29 July was meant to see the mineral added to the municipally provided potable water services in Molong, Cumnock, and Yeoval, however 48 hours before it was meant to start a delay was announced.
“In an effort to provide residents with as much notice as possible, council recently distributed letters advising that fluoridation was expected to commence this week,” a statement from Cabonne Council said.
“Unfortunately, the timing of that community notification has not aligned with the completion of final processes being undertaken by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, resulting in a delay to the commencement date.”
With the delay, it’s now expected the fluoride, which has been shown to have public health benefits, will begin flowing late this month.
“Council remains committed to introducing fluoridation to the town water supplies and currently expects the system to become operational towards the end of August, subject to final approvals and requirements being completed,” the statement said.
“Council appreciates the community’s understanding and apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
“A further update will be provided prior to fluoridation commencing.
“Please keep the notification letter you received from council on your fridge and simply update the commencement date by crossing out Wednesday 29 July and writing Wednesday 26 August.”
