NEW South Wales Public Education Week got underway on Monday, with the State’s Department of Education seeking to highlight the great achievements of schools.
The theme of this year’s event is “Inspiring Excellence”, with the aim of reflecting some of the major wins within the public school sector.
Highlights include seven of the state’s top 10 HSC schools being public, NSW public schools scoring above the national average in NAPLAN, and a 21 per cent increase in phonics baseline testing results over five years.
NSW Department of Education secretary Murat Dizdar said the State’s public schools were achieving great things.
“From STEM and performing arts to languages, trades and specialist programs, NSW public schools offer diverse and innovative learning pathways that connect students to rewarding careers,” he said.
“There is so much to be proud of in public education.
“Public Education Week is the perfect time to get involved with your child’s school and to celebrate your local school’s commitment to inspiring excellence.”
As part of the week, public schools will be taking part in a range of activities, including celebrations of their school communities.
Another focus for the 2026 event is a program aimed at supporting high achieving students.
“Our high-potential and gifted education program, Inspire, ensures all students, regardless of where they live, are challenged, nurtured and supported to grow and achieve their potential,” said Mr Dizdar.
