CABONNE businesses could save tens of thousands of dollars on battery storage under a New South Wales Government incentive designed to cut energy bills.
From 1 September, eligible businesses will be able to access an upfront discount on battery installation through government-accredited suppliers.
The discount will cover about 20 to 40 per cent of the upfront cost, with larger batteries attracting larger incentives.
The New South Wales Government said a small business such as a grocery store could receive a discount of about $37,000, while a medium-sized operation such as a dairy farm could receive about $355,000.
The incentive can also be combined with the Australian Government’s discounted rooftop solar scheme for commercial buildings, potentially providing further savings for businesses looking to generate and store their own electricity.
The scheme is part of a broader push by the NSW Government to increase battery storage across the state and help businesses reduce their long-term electricity costs.
“New South Wales wants more batteries, and these changes will help more people cut their power bills, whether they are running a business or living in an apartment,” New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Penny Sharpe said.
“The Minns Labor Government will help businesses unlock major savings through renewable energy, reducing their long-term operating costs, improving competitiveness and supporting jobs across New South Wales.”
A Government spokesperson said about 10,000 new home batteries are currently being installed across New South Wales each month.
For Cabonne businesses, the scheme could provide an opportunity to reduce reliance on the electricity grid while making greater use of solar power.
More information about the business battery incentive is available through the New South Wales government’s energy website.
