$1 million win sold in Canowindra

A CANOWINDA man is planning to swap Cabonne for the coast after winning $1 million in a  TattsLotto Weekday Windfall draw.

The Cabonne resident was one of three division one winners across Australia in the Monday 7 September draw, with his winning System 7 entry purchased from Canowindra Post Office on Gaskill Street.

The longtime lottery player explained that he had stuck with the same lucky numbers for decades, yet at first failed to realise they had finally landed him a major jackpot.

“I thought I would’ve been more excited, but I think I’m just in shock!” he said. “I’ve been playing these same seven numbers for decades. It’s very surreal.

“I saw it last night and it didn’t even register. I went ‘oh yeah, those are my numbers’. It took me a minute before I realised what that actually meant.”

The jackpot could also help turn a long-cherished dream into reality for the Canowindra resident, who shared that he had been aiming to relocate.

“Well, it’s great timing because I’ve been wanting to move,” he said. “Living near the beach would be a real treat.”

The division one victory marked a special milestone for Canowindra Post Shop, as it is the first major winning ticket sold by the business since its transition to a newsagency about three years ago.

Karen Cummings, the store manager, shared that the entire team was delighted to learn their outlet had handed out the lucky ticket.

“It’s such a thrill, we’re so excited for whoever won it,” she said. “It’s fantastic news for our small town. I’ve started printing off some signs and putting balloons up to share the good news.”

She said the local business is eager to join with community members to celebrate the milestone victory.

“Congratulations to the winner, we wish you all the best with your prize.”
