Doco set for regional premiere

THE AMUSU theatre in Manildra is set to host the New South Wales regional premiere of That Half Barbaric Twang this November with the event featuring a special screening, a live performance, and appearances by the film’s director, cast, and musicians.

Scheduled for the big screen on Saturday 7 November, the music documentary was directed by Stephen DuPont and stars David Field, Geoff Morrell and former Molong local Tim Oxley.

The documentary has strong local ties, highlighting numerous Central West destinations including Molong, Yeoval, Eugowra, Gooloogong, Hill End, Sofala, Bathurst, Parkes, Dubbo and Wellington.

Event attendees can also enjoy a live musical performance after the film, followed by an interactive question and answer panel with DuPont, Field, Morrell, and Oxley.

The upcoming screening arrives on the heels of notable industry recognition for the film.

DuPont earned the Best Emerging Director award at the 2026 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, where the project was also named a finalist for Best Australian Documentary and Best Music Documentary.

Additionally, the film was selected to screen at the Byron Bay International Film Festival in October.

The AMUSU theater screen provides regional audiences a unique opportunity to view familiar local settings on the big screen and connect directly with the creative team behind the story.

Admission is $25, with tickets available for purchase through the AMUSU website.
