Crews fight Cumnock shed fire

CREWS spent several hours battling a shed fire in Cumnock on Thursday night, with firefighters dispatched from across the district to extinguish the blaze.

The Cumnock Rural Fire Brigade was paged to the structure and grass fire at just after 7pm, attending with a Cat 7 tanker and a bulk water tanker.

Multiple emergency services joined the effort, including the Molong, Eurimbla, and Yeoval rural fire brigades, as well as Fire and Rescue NSW Station 380 Molong, alongside New South Wales Ambulance and New South Wales Police.

While Rural Fire Service units supplied water, Fire and Rescue New South Wales crews equipped with breathing apparatus moved in to tackle the blaze.

In the wake of the incident, Molong RFS personnel undertook a decontamination protocol aimed at limiting toxic fumes from the site via personnel or equipment.

This procedure was put in place following a recent training event with Molong Fire and Rescue.

“This process is important in ensuring any harmful particles are not spread when coming away from the fire, protecting the health of all of our fire fighters,” a Molong RFS spokesperson said.

According to Cumnock RFS, emergency personnel worked for several hours to fully put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and anyone holding relevant information is encouraged to get in touch with Orange Police Station.

Residents are urged by the Cumnock brigade to contact Triple Zero right away if they spot an unattended fire to ensure a swift response from emergency services.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the full extent of the damage.
