Week about knowing the rules

THINK you’re a road rules expert, or maybe you could do with a recap of the basics?

Regardless of what your motor-vation is, Transport for NSW has unveiled seven new learning sessions just in time for the state’s Road Rules Awareness Week.

Up and running from 21 September, Road Rules Awareness Week seeks to help people be better aware of the laws governing all road users, whether they be cars, trucks, bikes or pedestrians.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and properly understanding the rules is one of the simplest ways we can help protect ourselves and others every time we use the road network,” said Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison.

“Road Rules Awareness Week is a chance for all road users to refresh their knowledge and make sure they’re up to date with changes designed to keep our roads safe.”

To help people with the right knowledge, the seven new “Road Safety Learning Lab modules” cover areas like driving to the conditions, child car seat safety, fatigue, bicycle safety, alcohol and drug driving, road safety treatments, and misunderstood road rules.

To further help, there are also resources like the Road User Handbook, the Top 10 Misunderstood Road Rules guide, the Centre for Road Safety website, online Driver Knowledge Tests and the Supervising Learner Drivers Resource.

“The Road Safety Learning Lab modules provide practical, evidence-based learning that help people understand everyday risks and the choices they can make to reduce them,” Ms Aitchison said.

“The addition of topics including sharing the road safely with cyclists, pedestrian safety and child car seat requirements are timely topics this Road Rules Awareness Week, and I would encourage everyone to jump on and refresh their knowledge.

“Whether you’re behind the wheel, on a bike, on a motorcycle or walking on the footpath, taking a few minutes to brush up on your knowledge could help prevent a crash and save a life.”

All the resources can be accessed via the NSW Government website.
