Guns and pot plant found – regional police wrap

NEW South Wales Police have come away from a firearm and weapon prohibition compliance check from a location south of Parkes with a haul of guns.

On Wednesday 16 September, officers from the Parkes Rural Crime Prevention Team undertook the check at a property Cooka Hills Road, Cookamidgera.

There they seized four guns including a single-barrel shotgun and a gel blaster rifle, as well as ammunition, a cannabis plant, and hydroponic growing equipment.

Subsequently, a 41-year-old man was arrested and charged at Parkes Police Station with firearm charges, including possessing guns while being under a prohibition order.

Know anything about these thefts?

Officers from the Central West Police District’s Rural Crime Prevention Team are asking people for information after a number of vehicles were stolen from Parkes and Tottenham in 2025 and 2026.

On Sunday 29 March last year at about 6.30am two men broke into a towing yard on Royal Street in Parkes and stole a Mitsubishi ute by smashing it through a locked gate. The ute was later found on Barton Street in Parkes.

Then, at about 2.30am on Tuesday 25 November, two men broke into a property on Back Yamma Road in Parkes and stole a side-by-side (or UTV) valued at $18,500 before once again smashing through a locked gate.

The UTV was later found at the intersection of Henderson Street and Cons Lane in Parkes.

Then, on 24 January this year at 5.50am, a Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen from a property on Bobadal Road at Tottenham, while at 7.30am on the same day a different vehicle was found burned out on Moira Vale Road at Tottenham.

The Land Cruiser was later found in Forbes.

Police believe all three incidents are linked, and have made some arrests in relation to the offences, including a 33-year-old man at a Parkes address, as well as a 27-year-old man who was handed a Court Attendance Notice.

Officers are now appealing for help to identify the two men from the 2025 thefts and calling for people who may have CCTV footage of the events, or know who the men are to come forward.

The two men wanted in relation to the vehicle thefts are described as “Caucasian appearance and are depicted wearing a hi-vis shirt and jacket” in footage and images already obtained by Police.

Parkes, Forbes and Orange linked in offending

A 19-year-old man from Parkes has been charged after a car was stolen in Forbes and set on fire in Orange.

On Saturday 12 September at about 11.30pm emergency services were called to a car on fire on Oxley Place in Orange.

There they found a white Skoda hatchback that had allegedly been stolen from a Sam Street address in Forbes sometime in the 24 hours from 5pm on Friday 11 September.

While firefighters were able to put out the fire, the car was destroyed and taken by police for forensic examination.

A few days later, the 19-year-old man was arrested at a property on Albert Street in Parkes and charged with car theft.

Dubbo fire man catches charges

A house fire in Dubbo has resulted in arson charges for a 24-year-old.

The move comes after police, fire and ambulance crews turned out to a fire on Houston Drive in Dubbo mid-last week.

While no injuries were reported and Fire and Rescue NSW crews were able to put out the blaze, police subsequently established a crime scene.

On Wednesday 16 September at about 3.30pm, officers arrested the 24-year-old on Wheelers Lane in Dubbo.

He was then charged with damaging property by fire or explosives at a cost of greater than $15,000, aggravated by being linked to a domestic violence related matter.
