Canowindra Show a successful weekend

THE Canowindra Show has wrapped up after a busy weekend of fireworks, music, competitions, livestock, markets and community spirit.

Canowindra Show Society president Jacob Moriarty said the event was a success, with Friday night’s children’s games proving popular before the show continued on Saturday.

“The Canowindra Show went really well,” Mr Moriarty said.

He thanked the many volunteers, sponsors and community groups who helped bring the event together, including the Canowindra Services Club, which helped run the bar.

Fireworks and live music were among the weekend’s highlights, while the traditional pavilion displays continued to attract entries from local children, high school and home-school students.

Shearing was another major drawcard, with competitors travelling interstate to compete.

“There’s a lot of competitors that came down from Tasmania this year,” Mr Moriarty said.

Mr Moriarty said the dog trials attracted large numbers of both competitors and spectators, alongside the sheep judging, fleece, and Merino competitions.

Additionally, Mr Moriarty said the cattle section had a strong showing, noting that its return following last year’s absence sets a solid foundation for growth heading into next year.

He said the show’s continued success relied heavily on community and sponsor support.

“We couldn’t do anything without the CWA ladies and all the people who helped out this year,” he said.

The Show Society will hold a post-show meeting next month to discuss what worked, what could be improved and ideas for next year.
