Teen in court over break and enter

A teenager from Dubbo who was among a group of young people that allegedly took part in a break and enter has fronted court on charges.

The 14-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday 24 September in relation to the alleged offending that took place a week before.

On Friday 18 September the accused was allegedly armed with a knife and part of a group of young people who stole money from a car parked at a unit on Birch Avenue in Dubbo.

The group then broke into the home, cutting a flyscreen and trying to open a window.

They were confronted by the unit’s resident, a woman in her 40s, before throwing an item from within the house and causing damage to the property.

Police said the group then “fled the scene” and no injuries were reported.

Investigations by officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District led them to arrest the 14-year-old while executing a search warrant.

They also took a number of items, including a knife, from the property where the child was arrested.

The boy was charged with aggravated break and enter, as well as larceny.
