THE last two teams in the running for the Woodbridge Cup First Grade premiership have been bundled out of the comp’s finals series in straight sets.
On Saturday at their home deck in Cargo, the Heelers, who were leading an hour in following 10 minutes of power that saw them run in three tries, went on to drop their sudden death game against Blayney.
All square at four tries each in the 64th minute, Cargo had the lead thanks to the boot of Liam Wilson.
However, two more ties, and an accurate conversion kick saw the Bears get up with a final 22 to 30 scoreline.
A day later at the Rhino’s home field in Manildra the home side were fighting to keep their season alive against Cowra.
Eighty minutes wasn’t enough to separate the teams, with overtime required and the death nail coming seven minutes into the extra period.
In the League Tag semi-final battle of Cabonne’s southern towns, Eugowra got over the top of Canowindra by a single tri.
Hannah Martyn and Shayna Male both crossed twice for the Eagles, while Adison Newcombe also had a pair for the Tigers.
Eugowra failed to covert any of their tries, while Lily Bannan’s boot sent one over for Canowindra to keep hopes alive.
In the second came Cowra were way too good for Orange United, setting up elimination finals matches of Manildra v Eugowra and Cargo taking on Cowra.
