WHILE it may have been a wet and miserable afternoon outside, but there was plenty to smile about on Friday 21 August, as the Cabonne Roos Junior Rugby League Club came together to celebrate the end of their season.
For the club, the afternoon was a way to celebrate everyone who helped bring in a great season, whether they were playing, coaching, refereeing or organising games.
And there was one team in particular that had plenty to celebrate.
The Roos’ understrength side started the season with just seven players, not enough to form a team.
Rather than give up on the season, the club put their heads together to make it work.
A coach was found, more players joined and, over the course of the season, the team grew.
The players kept getting better as the weeks went on and, by the time they reached their final game, they had something pretty special to celebrate. They won 26 to 4.
The presentation afternoon also saw the club recognise the people who had helped make the season possible.
The committee was thanked for the work that happens behind the scenes, while coaches, families and volunteers were recognised for giving up their time throughout the season.
Referees were also given a special thank you, and the players themselves were, of course, at the centre of the afternoon.
Coach, Jade Seale, said that it was the persistence and determination that made the Roo’s so special.
“It’s a really great club, a good community, and they don’t give up,” she said.
